The Use of Music in Films

Title: Back to the Future
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Date: 4th December 1985 (UK)

This is a scene that I got from the film Back to the Future. Where Martin McFly is looking around Hill Valley in 1955 and the music in the background is "Mr Sandman" by The Four Aces. The reason why they chose this song was making the audience think that he was dreaming being in 1955, (The Sandman is a figure of sleep).
The song was recorded in 1954, which suits with the mise en scene of the film that Martin McFly is not in 1985 but in 1955.

Title: Final Destination
Director: James Wong
Date: 17th March 2000 (USA)

This music that I have chose was in the Credit scene in the film of Final Destination. It has a strong connection to the Narrative about people dying, young and old. The song was sung by Joe 90 and here is a link to the full lyrics - http://www.vagalume.com.br/joe-90/and-when-i-die.html.

As you can see in the lines underneath. The song is all about dying, which suits to the theme of the film. Knowing that their time will come in the end.

I'm not scared of dyin'
And I don't really care
If its peace you find in dyin'
Let the time be near
